CoolSculpting Q & A
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical, FDA-approved way to treat stubborn, unwanted fat pockets. It is not a weight-loss treatment.
CoolSculpting freezes your fat cells, which causes them to die. After your fat cells are destroyed, your body naturally eliminates those waste materials.
Treatment of unwanted fat pockets with CoolSculpting is currently approved for nine areas of your body:
- Chin
- Jawline
- Thighs
- Stomach
- Flank
- Bra fat
- Back fat
- Underneath the buttocks
- Upper arm
You will begin to see your stubborn fat pockets reduce in size about 3-6 months following treatment. You will need multiple treatments to achieve your desired results. Coolsculpting is proven to result in a 25% fat reduction.
What happens during a treatment?
After a consultation to discuss your trouble spots and your aesthetic goals with your provider at SWFL Dermatology Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, your provider applies a gel pad to the area to be treated. This pad protects your skin from the cooling mechanism.
During your CoolSculpting treatment, you may feel:
- Pulling
- Tugging
- Pinching
- Extreme cold
- Tingling
- Stinging
- Itching
- Skin sensitivity
- Aching
- Cramping
These sensations lessen as the treated area becomes numb. You can read your favorite book, watch a movie, return phone calls, and answer emails while in the treatment room.
Once the applicator is removed from your skin, your provider will perform a short massage on the treated area. This helps break up the treated fat cells, which increases the overall reduction in visible pockets of fat.
There is no downtime after your CoolScupting treatment, and you are able to return to your regular activities immediately.
What are the side effects of CoolSculpting?
There are minimal side effects associated with CoolSculpting. Typical side effects are temporary and may include:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Firmness
- Tingling
- Aching
- Tenderness
